I have owned doc’s for about 20 years. They take a few days to break in, but once they break in, they are like slippers and last for ages (still have my first pair from 20 years ago). Zappos is the king. Easy order, quick ship, killer customer service. No better online company.

These shoes are a great idea. I love the two-tone aspect to the black and tan. The only problem is that they are basically 1950’s bucks without the clump of the Doc Martin style. They are fantastic as a classic pegger-with-bucks look, but I miss the weight, height and bulk of a heavier shoe. The fit seems right to size. Go for them if you want classic retro-style.

Dr. Marten’s is the only shoe I wear! I work in food service, so I may spend as many as 12 hours on my feet, and with the patented sole I know I’m safe from slipping.

These are very comfortable shoes. This is my first pair of “Docs”. I had a slight heel run the first week, but a little bending of the heel area of the shoe daily and that went right away. Just my weird feet, I guess. Shoes are a very sturdy build and completely safe over wet pavement. (Almost never rains in So CA, so why I mentioned that, I have no idea! )

I wear a womens 9-9.5 and find the US mens size 7 fits me best in these. Took me about 3 weeks to break them in, wearing them for 30-40 minutes once a day. Now they are pretty comfortable & I can wear them for a full 13 hour day on my feet, no problem.

In terms of iconic shoe-y goodness, on par with your favorite pair of ripped and faded Chucks. Only these leather lace-ups will last a lot longer. Regulation footwear for the slog from England’s freezing factory floors to the filthy, punk-hard pavement enshrined in music history, multiple years and miles and haircuts from now, this patented Airwair sole will still be protecting you from unexpected bumps in the road. Honestly, can you say that about any people you know?

I’m not sure I’d add anything to what others have said. A classic shoe that’s surprisingly comfortable. I normally wear a 11.5/12 and I ordered a 12 (UK size 11). Mine came with yellow laces as well for a bit of an added style. Dr. Martens brand proves once again to stand the test of time.

Great shoes. I’ve owned a few pairs in my life, and always been happy. There’s a little bit of a break in period, but after they’re broke in they’re super comfortable. Very durable as well.

These shoes were bought as a gift for my son. He’s worn Docs for years and loves them. And Zappos is the best!

Zappos was really helpful when I messed up my order and needed to fix it. Then the shoes they sent me were the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. You really need to try Dr. Martens 1461’s. Evidently they have updated their insoles and are now better than ever.

I always buy from Zappos. Easy return policy. Sometimes you buy shoes from department stores, and they’re stretched out – with Zappos, every time I ordered, they were brand new. I’m upset that the Docs were from China, not England and there is a difference, if you have the real ones, but they still look great and are comfy. Next month, ordering some summer shoes.

Very comfortable, and great for the office. These don’t have the classic Dr. Martens yellow stitching and are inconspicuous at work. My new favs.

Bought this shoe in Oct 2008 and wear them everyday to work. There was a good week or so of breaking in but they then became completely comfortable. I was worried that the made in China version of Docs would not last but 2 and a 1/2 years later there is very little wear or breaking down of the leather and sole. I had a made in England chukka style shoe that lasted 6 years of daily use so if I can get close to that with these shoes, I will be very happy.

Classic Dr. Martens shoe. Can’t leave home without. You know the shoe, you know the quality. Zappos delivers what you need. Just remember, the full shoe size steps: means it might be on the big size.

As always, Zappos rocked on service and delivery. As for the shoes themselves, these Docs are starting to finally break in after the first 2 weeks or so, but it was a brutal start with those deep heel cups that cut into the back of my feet. My suggestion is to wear heavier socks and put adhesive bandages on your heels when you first start wearing these. The next pair I order (albeit in 8-10 years probably) will be the same model but labeled specifically as Made in England and not the standard version that is now made in China. There is definitely a difference.

I love, love, love these shoes and Zappos! I haven’t experienced any issues with breaking them in, but they are a little warm for the South Carolina summer! I originally ordered the 8 for my size 7.5 foot, but ended up returning and getting the 7, much better!

I’ve been a long time DM supporter (23yrs!) having several disappointments during the dodgy years of transition out of England. Comparing these to my last MIE pair, it’s hard to see any difference. Leathers seem about equally good quality, no blemishes, solid stitching. These have a padded insert, whereas the old ones did not. I’m thinking they’ll last me several years of wear. The only con is that they do seem a bit larger than UK 10. I’ve added an insole and still need to double some thinner socks. Otherwise, great! Love them bouncing soles, like walking on clouds. Thanks, DM and extra thanks to Zappos!

I used to wear this brand long ago when I was so much younger, and could not find them easily in shoe stores here in the US. I bought shoes form different brands that last 3 maybe 6 months, since I walk a lot. I stumbled upon Dr Martens again in a shoe store, where they did not have my size (size 13). So I decided to try zappos.com, since friends of mine are happy with the service. I found my shoes, in my size, ordered them, and when I tried them on it was like meeting an old friend after a long time! These are great shoes, for everyday wear, they do need to be worn in, it takes a couple of days before the leather forms to your feet, but then it is extremely comfortable. I walk back and forth to my job, a total of 3.4 miles Monday to Friday and these shoes still feel great.

I have had these exact Docs for years. I ordered a new pair, exact same style (1461) and size as the ones I have. They are way too big! They are also slightly different in style. The toe are is more raised/bulbous.

Comfortable, true to fit. The leather is a bit shiny and I prefer a bit matte with more of a worn look. These look brand spanking new and hospital shoe like. But with wear, they’ll develop a personality.

I love these shoes! They’re super comfortable and look great! I have a fairly wide foot and these shoes accommodate me comfortably. They have great traction and are well made. The only thing that bothered me at first was the back of the shoe rubbed my ankle raw because it hit me just in the wrong spot… I ended up adding an insole and it made that problem disappear and worth the extra 10 bucks I paid for the insoles. I’d give 5 stars if I didn’t have to add the insole since the factory soles are so comfortable without any modifications.

My first pair of DM’s (at age 39). One week of pain breaking them in and then they’re butter. Great shoe. Black stitch makes them perfect for work. Get ’em (and don’t wait until middle age).
Trevor –
These shoes are dope. Not only do they look good but they are comfy too. You should probably just buy ’em.

A great shoe, noot my first paiir of Dr. Martens. Always a very reliable shoe that you can count on for years of comfortable wear. A bit stiff for the first few months.

There are always two questions Dr. Martens wearers have. Will these fit? How bad will the breaking-in process be? Well, among Mr. Martens wearers, the breaking-in process is part of the rite of passage. It’s part of the mythology and heritage of this fine brand of shoes. I do have to say that the breaking-in of this particular model of shoe is short and if existent at all. My Dr. Martens model was the 1925, which seems to have been discontinued. This model number 1461 was the closest replacement. I did not realize it at the time, but this model (1461) is part of their Airlite or Airsole line of shoes. So, they felt like they were automatically broken-in, and also cushioned. That was a pleasant surprise. As for what size to wear, for US shoe sizes, I typically fit into between a man’s 9 and 10 size. the rule of thumb is to order one size smaller than that. I ordered a UK 7 (man’s 8), and they fit perfectly. My own rule of thumb is that you should order the same size of Dr. Marten that you do Converse Chuck Taylors. If you don’t also wear Converse Chuck Taylors, then you aren’t cool enough to wear these shoes either. 🙂 Just kidding. Hope this review helps. In short, they are sturdy, thick, heavy, and comfortable, just how I like my women. 🙂
