These are absolutely amazing! As with all other Doc Martens I would recommend a size smaller than the usual but they look amazing and are super comfortable. After I break them in I am assuming that they will be even more comfortable. I absolutely love them!

I had great expectations for this boot. After all, they’re DM’s! I tried them on & immediately could feel the ball of my foot sink to the floor. So despite the very rugged looking sole, it is extremely flimsy & the entire boot can be twisted in your hand. The width: yes I have narrow feet, however, with thick socks I can make up the difference. These were so wide that even with an orthotic & a thick hiking sock my foot was swimming in them. I would also order a half size up. Very disappointed so back they went

My toes kept hitting the front of the boot, which is very weird because I own other Docs in the same size (Uk 5, I wear 7.5 Narrow US).
So I don’t know if the actual boot is shorter or if something about the physics of walking in them was just shoving my foot forward, but these were unwearable for me. If all I had to do was stand in one spot then these would fit, but as soon as I start moving….Jam city.
Thanks to Zappos AMAZING customer service they are exchanging them for a UK 6 for me. I may be swimming in them, but since I wear them to work for 15 hour days on my feet I think I can fill them up with orthotics and squishy goodness if need be.
The bottom line is, if you can find the right size these boots are great, the leather is super soft, and the height of the shaft is perfect for wearing with the current trend of highwater pants (if you don’t want to show any leg, like me! I’m too pale!)

The leather is nice and soft — should cut down on break in time. I only wish Docs came in half sizes! My feet are a narrow 7 1/2 and hit the front of the 5s. Size 6 looks big but fits a spenko insole so those are the keepers for me.

Great quality, missed out because of sizing. I wear an 8 and I like roomy shoes but these fit closer to a 9. I also tried them in a size 7, way too small & not enough length. If you are a strong 7.5, neither size will suit.

My teen daughter wanted these for so long – she says they feel like a house for her feet and she feels almost grunge like and is very happy about that.

I just bought the 2 pairs of the 1490 docs to compare the difference in leathers. One is the smooth leather in black and the other is the virginia leather also black. HUGE Differences!!! I have several pairs of docs and the virginia leather is very thin and made cheaply. I have a pair of 1460 in the virginia leather from 4 years ago and they are awesome, sturdy but soft. The soles of the virginia leather boot felt lopsided in the right foot and I agree with the other review that it felt like your foot was going right to the floor through the soles!! The virginia leather boot is in womens sizes so a true womens US size 8 fit perfect. On the other hand…the 1490 smooth leather is definitely a stiffer more sturdy leather and the whole boot feels very solid and will last a LONG time. It did take a few days wearing them around the house to get the leather to conform to my foot, but were comfortable after about an hour! So take the time to break in the smooth leather ones, they are worth the money!!! The smooth leather comes in unisex sizes, so I am a true US womens 8, but always a UK size 5 (US womens 7) in the doc martin unisex boots. so if you want these boots for fashion with no break in time and cheaply made..get the virginia…. but if you want the value of true long lasting Doc…take the time to break in the Smooth leather ones!!!! ….Both boots were made in Vietnam!!

Love them! Always remember to order a size down with Doc’s. I did make that mistake at first, because I forgot bc my last pair lasted 8 years ??.

I usually wear a 9 1/2 Women’s but going on the recommendations of other reviewers I got the 9. I tried the boots on with a pair of women’s boot socks and they were too big. So I figured I’d try a pair of my husbands thick gym socks and they fit perfectly. The problem with that was these socks don’t stay on my feet. They slip down as I walk and bunch up. These boots were also a bit clunky. They looked too bulky for my foot. Needless to say that these boots didn’t work for me. Going to return and try a different boot.

I bought these for my daughter’s birthday and she is THRILLED with them. Not only do they look and feel good, but the fit is perfect. They look really nice on and she can dress them up or down.

I usually a size 8 and these fit true to size. I do have wide feet but so far these fit ok for me width-wise too. I usually strictly a comfort-driven shopper and these are not as comfortable as some of my other shoes, but I’m hoping I just need to break them more. The leather is soft and the look is just what I was looking for.

These boots in Virginia fit like a glove was made for my foot. I tried both the Napa 1460 and these 1490 Virginia. The Napa hurt my feet immediately and I am older so I don’t want to do that. I kept the buttery 1490 they cost a little more but worth the money. I am a size 8.5-9 and the 8 was perfect

Feel and look cheap compared to older Dr. Martens. Reminds me of cheap costume shoes. Not happy with these.
